My long time friend and Pledge Brother, James T (“Jim”) Greener, died July 20, 2023, four days after his 80th birthday, while rehabilitating from a broken hip, at Ridgecrest Rehabilitation. Jim was born July 16, 1943, and was one of the 7 founders of Micro-Rel, a HI-Rel medical electronics manufacturer, in Tempe, Arizona, which became a division of Medtronic Corporation. Before retiring from Medtronic in 2003, Jim was the General Manager of the facility, which is the largest private employer in Tempe, Arizona
Jim graduated from Arizona State University, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, to which he remained loyal his whole life. Jim was “Mr. Delta Sig” to hundreds of members of the Beta Psi chapter at ASU, serving as a member of the Alumni Control Board for Delta Sigma Phi for over 40 years. He met annually with the members Executive Council of the Active chapter to discuss their goals for the coming year, and helped guide them to completion. Jim’s help and guidance helped many of the undergraduate members to learn useful management, marketing and leadership skills for their future careers. Jim was instrumental in planning several annual alumni weekends for the fraternity, including a memorable Fiftieth Anniversary celebrated at the Wrigley Mansion with several hundred attendees, capped by a brunch at Brother Jim Warne’s home on Camelback Mountain.
Jim was also a founding board member of LifeLock and served as their initial Chief Operating Officer. He also served as a board member of Cirtec Medical Corporation. In the community, Jim was active as a member of the Valley of the Sun Y.M.C.A. board of directors and also served as a director of the National Foundation of Delta Sigma Phi.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Enright, his two daughters, Brittney Sounart and Cori Roberts, as well as his brothers Dan, Jerome, John and sister Margaret, step-son Bob Enright, and the hundreds of fraternity brothers whose lives he impacted in a positive way. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Carl Greener and Beatrice Greener, and his brothers Bob and Pat.
He will be forever remembered by his thousands of fraternity brothers who benefited from his leadership and commitment to the principles and duration of Delta Sigma Phi, as well as all of the Medtronic and LifeLock employees who benefited from his guidance and friendship. Godspeed, my brother.
